What is Interchange and do you offer Interchange Plus Pricing (also known as Cost Plus Pricing)?
Interchange is the rate/fees set by the credit card networks (Visa/MasterCard/Discover/AMEX). Interchange fees have a complex pricing structure. It is based on the card brand, regions or jurisdictions, the type of credit or debit card, the type and size of the accepting merchant, and the type of transaction. These can be considered wholesale costs to process credit and debit cards. Many providers of merchant accounts including the larger banks will often take these interchange fees and bundle them into two to four different tiers and mark up the rates for the merchants. Their type of Tiered or Retail processing is considered the more expensive way to process since many merchants are not taking advantage of the true cost of the various charges set by the card brands.
